Tension Brews Between WWE and Corey Graves as he deletes both Controversial Posts

Corey Graves’ absence from the January 14 episode of NXT has sparked speculation about his status in WWE. According to a report by PWInsider, Graves was spotted at Orlando Airport shortly before the taping, seemingly departing the city. Moreover, the situation has now become more controversial as Graves has deleted both the posts on X in which he had openly expressed his frustration over being demoted from the Main Roster’s commentary team to NXT.

Corey Graves WWE NXT Demotion Commentary Shake-up

Corey Graves’ Frustration with WWE NXT Demotion

Reports suggested that Graves was unhappy with his current role in the company. Once a prominent voice on the Main Roster’s commentary team, Graves was recently reassigned to NXT, which many view as a demotion. The shake-up has left him sidelined from WWE’s main roster programming, a move that has reportedly caused legitimate frustration for the veteran commentator.

On January 13, Graves took to X to express his disappointment. In an emotional post, he shared his love for professional wrestling and reflected on his brief in-ring career, which was cut short due to a series of severe neck and head injuries. While he acknowledged his success as a color commentator, Graves openly voiced his frustration over being removed from SmackDown. His comments hinted at feeling undervalued, stating he was “no longer famous enough” to retain his spot.

“Imagine chasing your dream. Then being TOLD (not deciding) that you’re no longer physically able to pursue your dream. Then you dedicate your life to something “dream adjacent” and being pretty f**king awesome at it. And then, when it’s time to enjoy the fruits of your labor, being told you’re not famous enough for your own job. Just in case you’ve wondered where I’ve been,” said Corey Graves.

He has now deleted this post which started all the controversy.

Changes in Commentary Teams

WWE’s recent commentary reshuffle saw Michael Cole and Pat McAfee paired on Raw, while Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett were promoted to the SmackDown. Graves’ reassignment to NXT has left him without a clear path back to the main roster, marking a significant shift in his career trajectory.

On the morning of 14 January, Graves in an another post on X (now deleted) even said he “had a lot to say” on the January 14th edition of NXT. He had plans to address his feelings during NXT. However, he did not appear on the show, leaving fans speculating about his future.

Backstage and Online Reactions

Interestingly, PWInsider reported that WWE may be turning Graves’ frustrations into a storyline. Despite this, the commentary veteran’s backstage frustrations appear genuine. Graves’ brother, Sam Adonis, further fueled the flames by posting on X, “Not A Work… 🫢,” suggesting the situation isn’t entirely scripted.

Corey Graves has been consistent in his job as an announcer in WWE, working alongside Michael Cole. His spot at the Raw commentary desk was given to Pat McAfee, who is best known for his college football programming with ESPN. Fans even supported Graves expressing disappointment at Graves’ demotion with the hashtag “#wewantgraves” on X.

What’s Next for Corey Graves?

With his future on WWE’s main roster commentary teams uncertain, Corey Graves remains an integral part of NXT, with no return to either “Raw” or “SmackDown” planned for him as of now. His frustrations reflect broader concerns about talent management in WWE.

Whether his recent comments will serve as the foundation for a storyline or indicate deeper issues between Graves and WWE remains to be seen.
